Meeting with Flood Assistance Program Administrator

You are here: Home / Government / Meeting with Flood Assistance Program Administrator

July 22, 2011 //  by twinlakes

This is just a brief post to let you know that members of ALMS met with Mike Yacentuik.  He  is responsible for the delivery of the Flood Assistance Program.  We had a productive meeting and two other members of his staff were also present.  We were focused on Part C Terms and Conditions of the Program.  The timing of the meeting was excellent because the input from our meeting might be taken into consideration because a Part D is currently being written.  It should be ready soon and hopefully will support some of our suggestions to improve Part C.  However, Mike explained that our big issue…The classification of Principal and Non Principal Resident will have to be taken up with the Minister and or Premier.  Since that is our main focus then that is exactly what ALMS plans to do next.  The full minutes of the meeting will be available in a couple of days and I will publish them as soon as I get them from the recording secretary.

I would like to plead with our members that they all register with MASC and open a file by Sept 1st even if you don’t take any advance money for immediate flood mitigation you MUST OPEN A FILE BECAUSE IF YOU DON’T YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY COMPENSATION IF SOMETHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO YOUR PLACE THIS FALL, OR WINTER OR SPRING.  It is easy to open a  FILE >>>>Just call MASC at toll free  1-855-220-1822  and you can open your file over the phone with one of their reps that answer.  There is absolutely nothing to it.  OUR COMMITTEE IS WORKING VERY HARD ON YOUR BEHALF BUT YOU AS INDIVIDUALS MUST DO SOME THINGS ON YOUR OWN AS WELL.  WE CAN’T DO IT ALL FOR YOU.  I WAS SADDENED TO HEAR THAT MANY PROPERTY OWNERS STILL HAVE NOT REGISTERED.  THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE AND AFTER SEPT 1ST IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FILE ON RECORD AT MASC WE CAN’T HELP YOU ANY FURTHER.  SO PLEASE IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY DONE SO …DO IT TOMORROW…

Chair Flood Action Committee

We have received reports from a few of our residents that, this past weekend, they located a number of rocks in the lake that had zebra mussels attached to them.It appears the mussels have arrived at our beach. Please let folks know, and especially children know - as if they are in the water playing, and they step on rocks with zebra mussels attached, those little buggers can be razor sharp, and could easily cut someone's exposed skin.FYI. ... It is our unfortunate duty to share with you some information provided to us at the AGM last weekend by the RM of Woodlands. It appears that the agreement between Woodlands and St Laurent for winter snow plowing has been dissolved, and is no longer in place. As a result, St Laurent will not be plowing the road this coming winter. This is not due to the councils of either RM, both of whom remain in favour. The problem is due to the union in the RM of Woodlands, that has objected to the agreement, as it considers it a form of outsourcing, and a violation of the collective agreement. I know from talking to numerous of the full time residents of Woodlands that they were very pleased last winter with the impact of the agreement, and I have no doubt that you will find this news disappointing.Snow plowing will return to the format that was in place prior to last winter.I am told that the collective agreement is coming up for renegotiation in the next year or so, and the RM of Woodlands will try to get this arrangement into the union agreement when it does. No guarantees.Fyi. ... See MoreSee Less

A very big THANK YOU to Will Jones, past president of the TLBA. As president for the last few years, Will made it his focus to help individual members with their issues, concerns and problems, during all four seasons. Additionally, he put considerable effort into issues relating to environmental cleanup, solving the issue with ghost nets in the water, a decontamination station for zebra mussels, election communications, coordination with the other beach associations, and more. Will was always available to lend an ear to anyone who needed help.Thank you for all your efforts Will, Twin Lakes Beach is better for them! ...
