Public Notice ~ Spring Update, March 2012

You are here: Home / Media Bulletins / Public Notice ~ Spring Update, March 2012

March 26, 2012 //  by twinlakes//  Leave a Comment

Since the State of Local Emergency within the R.M. of St. Laurent was lifted Dec. 31, 2011 CARE AND CONTROL was then given back to each property owner as of Jan 1, 2012.  Our Regional Manager has advised that the Province will not be covering any mitigation expenses incurred by the R.M. for pumping, sandbagging, etc., therefore all individual property owners’ should contact the MASC Office to confirm coverage under their program. Please call 1-855-220-1822. The only pumping covered thru MIT is within the dike area and is contracted out to Sigfusson Northern at this time.

Demolition
Currently we have written requests from fourteen owners; R2G2 has been hired as the Contractor to start this process. Some material will be hauled in to provide safe entry and exit for contractor’s equipment. Other private accesses must be done thru the MASC Program. Demolition is scheduled to begin on March 27th, 2012. Only properties that have agreed on compensation thru MASC will be considered for this process.
Debris from individual property owners must be hauled to the Waste Transfer Site. No pick up by R.M. at this time.

Building permits are required to lift or elevate homes; therefore please contact the Western Interlake Planning District Office at 646-2615 before works begin.

The R.M. of St, Laurent has hired a Municipal Emergency Coordinator being, Joey Senga. Contact information is available through the R.M. office. Alternate MEC, Penny Byron will continue to work alongside Joey throughout the spring season.

Fire Ban
The province projects that 2012 will be in a drought situation, therefore the R.M. of St. Laurent enforces the Fire Chief’s recommendation for a “fire ban” throughout the Municipality effective immediately. Consequences outlined in the by-law for burning will be enforced with fines levied against any offender. PLEASE DO NOT BURN!

Roads
The R.M. of St. Laurent is currently awaiting for approval of coverage from the Province to begin spreading finer material over beach roads.
